From the earliest styles of music, composers have taken,
deliberately or otherwise, rhythms, melodies, harmonies, and
timbres from pieces by their contemporaries, or favourites.
e.g. Simple music...(Pre-harmony, restricted vocab. etc.)
Classics... (Mozart-Beethoven-Wagner...)
Jazz... (specific melodic references in classic jazz solos)
Rock... (sooo many Beatles rips/influences)
Sampling...
