I asssociate vending machinies with promise and especially with false promis. The gum machines of my childhood promised to dispense jewelled toys with the bright balls of bubble gum. Some how the trinkets never fell my way though I chewed through my pocket money in gum. Since then life has thrown up many promises bith true and false.
