St. Petersburg is the most westerly city in Russia and probably the most westernised. This being my first visit to the former eastern bloc I was interested in observing the extent to which western values had managed to permeate Russia.

As a means of somehow testing this observation I set myself up in St. Petersburg as a pseudo corporate company - 'Pidgin Services". Pidgin refering to my need to speak in pidgin Russian in order to get by.

Having kitted myself out in boiler suit and baseball cap I set about collecting found objects from the city streets before gift-wrapping them in the gallery to be given away as small mementos of the city. I documented my journeys around the city on a 'campaign map' using tiny flags to denote each location of the found object.
