That machine [still working!] is to be found today in Zwemmers bookshop in the Whitechapel Gallery. With other Hayvend machines in central London, [ICA bar, Tactical coffee bar in Soho and Backspace cyber lounge] we are essentially a London based operation, although we have plans to put machines up in Bristol and Manchester. The original idea was to provide a genuine alternative way for artist to promote, distribute, and sell their work. Artists put their stuff in the "little yellow boxes", the boxes are sold in the vending machines and the artist gets a cut... simple. This is still what we do, except we have a web site. working on a magazine and are looking at other ideas like jigsaw puzzles and bill boards to work with. The plan is to keep pulling it all together so that Hayvend is a sort of "gateway" into other projects and visa-versa. We’re trying to get inter-net projects that fit in the boxes and things that fit in the boxes to work on the internet. And now we have Hyper-mart*, vending digital art on floppy discs.
