1001 GOOD REASONS
Tommy Lee Jones is behind the door. He's on the top of a brownstone and
could get cover from the water tower or jump from roof to roof. Tommy
knows that our one route to him is through the attic steps.
He also knows we know he's waiting for us. The only way to break the
deadlock is to create a diversion which will give Jamie Lee the few seconds
she needs to take the advantage. Tommy Lee knows that Jamie Lee only has
two bullets left but he doesn't know I have the whale harpoon (with the big
hook on it ) that I picked up after the skirmish in the Maritime Museum.
All Tommy's accomplices are spoken for. Three of them went up with the
helicopter when the diplomatic bag exploded. The fat one got locked in the
freezer in the meat warehouse. The bald one was crushed by one of my
magnetic sculptures. The thin one, with the Zappata moustache, was impaled
with a stuffed swordfish by Jamie Lee in the Maritime Museum.
I send the harpoon through the sky light and it snags around the base of
the water tower. Tommy knows that Jamie could either climb up the rope and
through the sky light or come through the door. I start to climb the rope
up toward the sky light. Tommy takes a chance and moves to unhook the line
from the water tower - breaking his cover. Jamie Lee, with her ear to the
door, hears the hook scraping on the concrete roof and bursts out
releasing one shot. It passes through Tommy Lee's shoulder and severs the
cord which had been keeping me suspended. I fall, but manage to grab hold
of the balustrade on my way down. I'm hanging there, looking five stories
down
