Some UK History

This is an attempt to document some important parts of the UK h/p community past and present. It is a list of things and 'places' that I feel have contributed to our community. This is just a personal view, there have been many more important figures in the UK h/p arena that I never came into contact with, so if you know of any or have any corrections to make to his info, mail me. Any contributions will be gratefully received !

This BBS was the centre for a large part of the h/p community for some time. The message base on it was huge, due to a rule that you had to post everytime you called, otherwise your account was revoked. This meant no-one logged on purely to upload / download h/p warez and you had to have something useful to contribute before you called. Everytime you called there was a flood of invaluable information available. People would have to find out new stuff so they could call again and have something to post. Sadly UABBS stopped operations, I believe it was because due to the BBS's dynamic nature the sysop (Phantasm) did not have enough time to run the thing. Like most hp BBSs at the time it was only available from 22:00 to 7:00. Trying to get access before midnight was almost impossible due to the number of calls coming in. Anyway, thanks Phantasm, it was appreciated.

TERMINAL BOREDOM BUST

I have been informed by Coaxial/PHATE that Maelstrom's "Terminal Boredom"
BBS has been raided. There has also been bust reports published in several
Scottish newspapers today, so expect more details soon.

number until all the facts are known. (see below)
Terminal Boredom wasn't around for long but as they say, "The flame that burns half as long burns twice as bright". It was first online on the morning of May 28th 1994 and immediately became a hot board to be on. This was mainly due to the sysop who was not only a sound bloke but a total ninja when it came to most h/p subjects. Sadly it got raided by the police because of a certain well known journalist and some narc scum (Time Bandit) who tipped them off.

Urban XTC was a BBS run by Meeko and co sysop Mini-Master. There wasn't a mass of posts on there (although there was as steady stream) the file base was huge. It was especially good for cellular info and files, due to it being one of the main homes of the CCC (Cellular Cracking Corporation). It was shut down in the end because someone redirected a Barclays Bank voice mail system to the BBS number.

These were files written by a crew based loosely around Darkcyde. They detailed specific hacks or exploits and were like gold dust because they were accurate and blindingly useful. Always a good combination. They were also notoriously hard to get hold of. Destructive Jungle Archives 1-8 were issued although I have never seen some of them.
